Siyabonga Brian Radebe aka “Siya B” is widely recognized for his acting roles in some of the country’s television shows like Generations & Intersections as well as prominent parts in films such as Hollywood blockbuster District 9. A prestigious Best Actor of the Year Award at the 2012 South African Film & Television Awards served to announce Siya as one of the best actors in the country. However, it is with his first love – comedy – where he truly thrives and is well on his way to entrenching himself as a bonafide stand up heavyweight.

Siyabonga Brian Radebe aka “Siya B” is now widely recognized for his successes on both the small and the screen but unbeknown to most, this multi-talented entertainer has also been taking the comedy world by storm.

Siya B started comedy in Durban at the Durban University of Technology, where he got his education in the Dramatic Arts. He went on to make huge strides with his acting career but his first love stand up comedy continued to grow and develop in the background. He continued to hone his comedy craft over the years and until now he can be found wowing audiences with his unique character driven comedy style.

As mentioned previously Siya B has made more of an impact in the world of television and film to date but this success is certainly starting to spill over into his comedy career. On the small screen, he has held down lead roles in television shows such as SABC 1ʼs “A Place Called Home” and “Home Affairs” and more famously on ETVʼs prime time soapie Rhythm City. His talent has also seen him get numerous theatre acting roles as well as movie appearances of which his role in Hollywood blockbuster “District 9” earned him the most rave reviews. As if this doesnʼt underline the multiple levels of talent this performer has, he his a great singer musician who sometimes incorporates this into his tv and movie roles as well as comedy performances. He also has a fully fledged album in the pipeline – a tremendous talent.

The passion and dedication he has exemplified in his growth as an actor is the same level of commitment he applies to his comedy. In addition, his acting background allows him to dramatize his material in manner most comedians can only envy. His storytelling is not only well narrated and acted but is captivating as a result.

Siya B has performed at many different comedy clubs in the country, such as the Blues Room in Sandton, the Sun Coast in Durban, Morula Sun in Mabopane, Cool Runnings in Melville, Bambata in Centurion Mall amongst others. He has also been invited at comedy festivals- such as the Just Because Comedy Festival, DSTV Macufe Comedy Festival, Tshwane Comedy Festival, 99% Zulu Comedy Festival, Soweto Comedy Festival, Opening Guys and many more.

When this multi talented performer was asked which of his various areas of endeavor in the entertainment industry he enjoys the most, his response was, “definitely comedy!” “Reason being that the comedy stage is the only stage that allows me to full express myself and utilize all the abilities I have.” Siya B is certainly a name that is making waves in the comedy industry and with this prodigiously gifted entertainer rising up the ranks in the comedy hierarchy of the countryʼs comedy talent – is definitely a name here to stay and one worth remembering!
