Bongani Sotshononda

Bongani is an international acclaimed Chromatic Marimba/ Marimba Percussionist and Composer.

For the past twenty years Bongani has wowed audiences in the country and internationally. His work includes collaborations with world renowned vibraphonists like Stephon Harris (New York), Pascal Schumacher (Belgium), Magda de Vries (a classical Marimba player, who now lectures in Japan) and the UCT Big band headed by professor Mike Campbell.

Some of the musicians he played with includes the Brubeck Brothers, Morris Goldberg, Willie Van Zyl Haubrich, Shannon Mowday and Many more.

Bongani is currently working as a Director of music and resident Marimbas player at Marimba Cafe at the Cape town International convention Centre.

He also heads the ever popular Phambili Marimba and Brass Ensemble, Kalimbe and intsholo. He also co-produced and directed the opening ceremony of the world Association of engineers at the CTICC in October 2005.

Bongani has performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with his 13 piece ensemble.

He performs on his own, with his marimba duet, trio and full marimba band.
